Jon Ramey’s travels brought him to Meridian, Mississippi last week via Highway 45.

Jon lives by his creed of “live to skate, skate to live, skate free.” After two tours in Afghanistan, Jon decided to set himself free on the road. He’s a hobo by choice and travels the US skating with different people.

Panhandling is his major means of support. Jon relays that most people are nice. However he did have a verbal skirmish with a Texas business man over his career choice. In Jon’s words, “I served 3 years fighting for this guy’s right to have his big ass car and he’s gonna tell me to get a fucking job? Fuck it!”

Jon also has strong words for corporate America and their treatment of the homeless. He has been forced to vacate benches outside of Wal-Mart and Target stores. Austin, Texas earned the distinction of being his favorite place to be homeless because many restaurants put out extra food and shelters are readily available.

His travels have taken him from Washington to Georgia. Jon has many stories and adventures to relate of his life on the road and of his military service. His joy is very apparent.

Traveling and accompanied by a skateboard along the way seems a good idea. “live to skate, skate to live, skate free.” is a guilt free quote for skateboarders, living the dream.

Fascinating story about a lifestyle that many of us could not survive. Good work on the shots. They tell a lot of it. It has certainly broadened my view of the world. I may never look at a homeless person or a skater the same again.
